Scavenger It took Alan a moment to register that the flash of gray he saw through the trees just after dawn was a person.  There were so few left.

He'd seen a family in an empty town last week, a couple and two children.  They had even shared their scavenged food with him, but he knew he couldn't stay.  Last month he had found three men who had made a fortress out of an old radio tower.  From them he had run; they were angry and had guns.  And there was enough ammunition around to last until someone started making more... or until no one was left to do the shooting.  The latter seemed more likely to Alan but he didn't need to know, he just needed to sScavenger by *TeaRoses

The Girl Who Stayed Home Jane tries not to remember.  After all, she was only thirteen and much too young, and who could blame her.  In fact most of the time she pretends it was all a dream.

When they appeared in her room that night she told herself that too, that it was only a dream.  But she had never dreamed of beautiful stately women wrapped in golden robes, and never would again.

Their first words were an apology.  "We would never intrude upon you like this, Hara, if it were not the darkest of hours."

Sleep Perhaps it's the pressing consciousness
that across the world
people are at work and school
and walking sad with worry
Did people sleep
before they had to think of that?

Or perhaps it's the dreams
the ones you hate or hate to wake from
that don't offer their portents
as long as you are staring at the screen

or the windshield.

Or maybe there's a part that thinks
if you can just push the night clock round

I'm doing a lot of rethinking, wondering if I really am who I thought I was and if I really believed what I thought I did.  Ideally that's good, people need to rethink all that, but I don't think I'm handling it as well as I could be.  I guess I feel like I'm not strong enough for questions like that.  

For example I'm just not able to say "Yeah, this is who I am, and screw you if you don't like it."  Which helps when you're deciding, I think.  I'm more like "Maybe this isn't who I am!  And if you don't like it, I'm sorry, I'll change!"

Which is more personal than I usually get here, but there you have it.
